National Defense Transportation Day and GPS Tracking Solutions I CallPass

Every year, the United States recognizes National Defense Transportation Day. Since CallPass GPS tracking solutions play a vital role in the transportation industry, the company previously honored transportation week in mid-May by discussing its role as a GPS tracking software company.

History 

Lyndon B. Johnson highlighted the hardships of transportation workers in the mid-19th century before railroads (2).  Pre-Industrial Revolution, it took workers at least a month to transport goods from coast to coast. After railroads were invented, this trip became less than 2 weeks. After highways were created, this trip took only days.  

President Eisenhower wanted to honor the challenges faced by and the contributions of the transportation industry during his presidency. Therefore, in May 1957, he signed that the third Friday of May would annually be known as National Defense Transportation Day (2). Then, in 1962, the year before Lyndon B. Johnson became president, congress proclaimed that May 16-22nd would be known as National Transportation Week. 

 Current News 

During his presidency, Donald Trump spoke about the poor condition that many of our nation’s roads, rails, ports, and more had fallen into. President Trump emphasized that we need to rebuild the disrepair of transportation infrastructures to promote commerce, protect public safety, and enhance national defense (3).  Recently, President Biden stressed that our nation’s transportation infrastructure is responsible for stimulating economic growth and boosting national security (4).
